Oman teams to participate at GCC Golf Championship

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s Men and Under 18 National Teams are competing at the 24th GCC Golf Championships for men and the 13th edition for boys' GCC Golf Championship held at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.


The opening ceremony is to be held on Sunday at 4pm and the championship will continue until March 17, 2022.


The UAE General Authority of Sports is hosting the event along with the Emirates Golf Federation at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.


The Sultanate is participating with Ghaleb al Busaidi as head of the delegation, Peter Bailey as coach of the national teams, Azzan al Ramahi, Badr al Ameri, Muhammad Ambisaidi and Fahd al Kettani. Youth national team under 18 years have Mohammed al Noamani, Al Mundhir al Hinai and Ayman al Busaidi.


Mundhir al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association said, “We are extremely grateful for the support that has been extended to us by Mohsin Haider Darwish, Infrastructure, Technology, Industrial and Consumer Solutions (ITICS) and in particular to the Honourable Lujaina Mohsin Haider Darwish. This generous support will allow our Men’s and Under 18’s National Teams to travel and compete in the GCC Golf Championships at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.”

Honorable Lujaina Mohsin Darwish, Chairperson, MHD ITICS stated that MHD ITICS is honoured to be a sponsor to the National Team for the GCC Golf Championship.


“As an organization, we strongly believe that competitive sports are one of the best builders of youth temperament in the country. May these talented individuals succeed and bring more glory to our beloved homeland,” she said.


The chairman of Oman Golf Association said that this tournament brings together the best amateur golfers from the region and Oman’s players’ participation is key in generating interest across all levels within the Sultanate in an effort to grow the game.


“We have already seen the positive effects of this within our Ladies and more junior squads who both won medals in the last GCC Golf Championships which were played here in Oman in 2019,” he said.


Six teams from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia including Oman have confirmed their participation.
