MUSCAT: The Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF) organised a 100 km endurance horse race for 2021-22 season in Barka. It was a one-off race for girls and boys, young and adults, under the sponsorship and support of the Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Development Corporation.
The concluding ceremony was sponsored by Mohammed bin Hamed al Marhoon, member of the OEF Board of Directors in the presence of Ahmed bin Saif al Abri, OEF Secretary-General.
Salsabil bint Muhammad al Mudhaffar on the ‘Conquistador’ won the title of the ‘local girls competition’ for 100 km competed by 16 horses.
Muhammad bin Khamis al Balushi on ‘Dondervale’ won the boys title for a distance of 100 km with the participation of 31 horses.
The qualifying races of 40 km and 80 km with the participation of 14 and 7 horses were held in run-up to the final race.
Awards
Prizes were allocated to each girls and boys races for 100 km. First place rider received RO 3,500, second place rider took home RO 2,500 and third place rider got RO 1,500. The rider at fourth place got RO 1,000, rider at fifth place got RO 800, rider in sixth place got RO 700, rider at seventh got RO 600 and place from eighth to tenth received RO 500 each.

The race included three stages -- 40 km, 35 km and 25 km. The minimum age of the horse is 6 years, and the minimum speed is 14 km/hr where five horses were able to successfully complete the race. Salsabil bint Muhammad al Mudhaffar won the first place on the ‘Conquistador’, Tharaa bint Muhammad al Zadjali on the ‘Bahgah of Muscat’ was second and Alaa bint Ahmed al Balushi on ‘Ajda’, came third. Sarah bint Abdullah al Balushih on ‘Najm Sohail’ came fourth and Sheikha bint Muhammad al Rawahi on ‘Lormarkopinhagen’ finished fifth.

The competition included three stages -- 40 km, 35 km and 25 km. The minimum age of the horse is 6 years, and the minimum speed is 14 km/hr where 10 horses were able to successfully complete the race.
Muhammad bin Khamis al Balushi on ‘Dondervale’ claimed the top spot, Faris bin Abdulaziz al Abri on ’Team Tam’ came second and Moayed bin Suleiman al Balushi on ‘Sam Lord’ finished third. Muhannad bin Suleiman al Balushi on ‘Ostotah’ was fourth and Saeed bin Jaber al Busaidi on ‘GS Lavan’ finished fifth.
Qualifying races
Seven horses participated in the 40 km qualifying competition, and five horses were able to qualify. The qualifying competition included two stages and, the minimum speed was 12 km/hr and the maximum was 16 km/hr. The minimum age of the horse was 5 years.
At one stage, 26 horses were able to qualify out of 33 horses in the 40 km qualification.
