MUSCAT: Al Bashayer Annual Festival for Arabian camel racing 2022 programme was unveiled by Dr Abdullah bin Salem al Junaibi, race director, at the Al Bashayer Square on Tuesday.
The annual festival will be held from February 28 to March 5 with support of HH Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan. During the press conference, Dr Abdullah confirmed that the variety of prizes will include 25 SUV cars, including 11 cars of Land Cruiser Station and 14 Land Cruiser Pick-up. There will be also 14 precious symbolic prizes (icon) -- two silver and gold swords -- will be awarded for the winners on the closing day.
On the first day, for young category (Hagayag, 2 years old) from 4 km there will be 16 races (cash prizes) in the morning, and 8 race (prizes are cars) in the afternoon.
On second day, there will be 15 races (cash prizes) for young category (Lagaya, 3 years old) from 5 km in the morning, and 5 races (prizes are cars) in the afternoon.
The third day will be for (Elythaa, 4 years old) for 6 km in 10 races (cash prizes) in the morning and 5 races (prizes are cars) in the afternoon.
'Thanaya' 5 years and 'Alhool' 6 years old will be in the fourth day morning for 8 km divided into 8 races. Additionally, there are two 2 km races for human riders above 18 years old.
On the last day, the competition will start in the evening with an endurance race (12 km) for human riders above 18 years old. The prize is land cruiser station for the winner and cash prizes for top 10 places. Four other races (8 km) will be held for the grand prize of golden sword and Land Cruiser Station (institution), Silver sword and Land Cruiser Station for the individual participant.
The concluding ceremony will be held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.
The Bashayer Square race committee affirmed that all necessary measures will be taken regarding the Covid-19 medical protocols.
