MUSCAT: Renowned Omani poet Hilal bin Mohammed al Amri passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness. He was 70. Born in 1953 in the Wilayat of Samayil, Al Amri received his pre-university education in the United Arab Emirates. He graduated from the American University of Denver in the US in 1978 in administration and economics and obtained a diploma in university management from the University of North Carolina, and a diploma in Television Management from the University of Manchester, UK. Al Amri was awarded the Sultan Qaboos Order for Culture, Science, Arts and Literature in 2006; the Medal of Appreciation for Excellent Civil Service in 2009 and the Medal for Literary and Cultural Participations from the GCC Secretariat-General in 2013.
