MUSCAT: The Directorate General of Health Services in Governorate of Muscat represented by the Department of Diseases Surveillance and Control organized a training workshop on the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) at Darsait Al Sahel, Bahara Hall.
Dr Jamal al Khadhoori, Director General of Nursing Affairs at the Ministry of Health, as well Dr Thamra al Ghafri, Director General of Muscat Health attended the workshop, in addition to senior officials.
The three-day workshop, which began on Tuesday, targets EPI nurses in addition to newly EPI enrolled nurses working in Muscat health institutions.
The workshop is held within the continuous training and education process of the EPI nurses to keep them abreast with the latest development of the program along with promoting and exchanging expertise among senior and junior EPI nurses.
Participants of fresh nurses at the primary health institutions will be trained on the program that covers requesting vaccines, storage method as per the Ministry of Health policy, and vaccine administration to the target group.
The workshop, managed by specialised lecturers from DGHS-Muscat’s health institutions, is focusing on number of topics including vaccination chain management and storage according to MoH’s policy, in addition to the method of writing the monthly report for children and adult vaccinations.
Actions taken to report delay in children vaccination and refusers, vaccination adverse effects notification, and registration method in health workers’ vaccinations registry will be identified in the workshop.
It is hoped that the workshop will be concluded by recommendations that would bear positive impact on the national EPI work.
