A maritime security system was activated at the Command and Control Centre in North Al Batinah Governorate on Monday.
A celebration was held at Suhar Port under the auspices of Commodore Tarik bin Issa al Raisi, Acting Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO).
The launch of the maritime security system comes within the context of building an integrated radar system for detecting and tracking various maritime activities linked to the command and control centres at the Maritime Security Centres and the ports of the Sultanate of Oman. The aim is to cover the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman, boost security of international navigation lines and leverage the security level of the Sultanate of Oman’s ports in global trade.
The Command and Control Centre in North Al Batinah Governorate contributes along with the other maritime centres, which will be activated sequentially, in supporting the national maritime security system of the Sultanate of Oman.
This strategic project also provides various technical requirements that enable the Maritime Security Centre to perform its national tasks and duties effectively in cooperation and coordination with the military, security and civil authorities related to the maritime security sector. Besides, the project has a prominent role in addressing non-military risks and different maritime threats such as piracy, illegal fishing, drug trafficking to preserve security and stability in the region.
