Islamabad: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 17th extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states’ Ministerial Council, held here to discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

The Omani delegation was headed by Shaikh Khalifa Ali al Harthy, Diplomatic Affairs Undersecretary at the Foreign Ministry.

Al Harthy gave a speech in which he affirmed that the “Afghan people deserve to be supported at this delicate political juncture”.

Oman is working hand-in-hand with other members of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to find the best ways to help Afghanistan and its people and back all measures undertaken by the OIC to handle the situation, said Al Harthy.

The Ministerial Council underscored its member states’ solidarity with the Afghans in their endeavours to establish peace and enjoy unity, stability, sovereignty and prosperity.

The Council urged OIC member states and the international community to concentrate on providing quick humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

Oman’s delegation included Shaikh Mohammed Omar al Marhoon, Sultanate of Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan, and officials at the Foreign Ministry. --ONA
