ISTANBUL: The Council of Oman took part in the 16th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states (PUIC), held during December 9-10 in Istanbul, Turkey.
During his speech at the session, Said bin Hamad al Saadi, Deputy Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura and head of the Council of Oman’s delegation at the session, affirmed that Jerusalem will continue to be of an Arab history and identity despite the colonisers’ attempts to erase its identity. He pointed to the Sultanate of Oman’s permanent stance towards the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people to establish a fully-sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al Saadi stressed the importance of prioritising and adopting the language of dialogue as a way to achieve political solutions for the Islamic nation, in a way that would ensure that people continue their developmental path amid security, peace and stability. He called for averting extremism and tensions, and rejecting violence and hatred while handling issues in order to reach societies where brotherhood and stability prevail.
Regarding the suffering of the Afghan people, Al Saadi said: “The friendly Afghan people suffer from instability and wars that have resulted in displacement and intimidation. We hope that the Afghan people will work with each other hand in hand to address the challenges facing their humanitarian, social and economic situation. The Afghan people should not be separated by ways, and they should work in a spirit of tolerance, peace and harmony, for the sake of reunification, reconstruction and prosperity of Afghanistan, and for the immigrants to return to their homeland safe and secure.”
