NIZWA,NOV 23
Not content with demonstrating a progressive community awareness and assistance programme in the aftermath of Cyclone Shaheen, when a large group of their senior players and supporters took part in a mass clean-up, easing the pain for many families and citizens in the wider society in their time of need.
Savad Hussain, Joint Secretary of the FC Nizwa Sports Club, said, “We have a vigorous club, of around 80 members, and we have an excellent football team that is performing well on the pitch. However, we also understand our obligations to our community in promoting healthy lifestyles, and feel we can assist in many different areas of social support.” He explained that celebrating their first 10 years since being established in 2010 “Is a meaningful landmark, and that they felt strongly they should build upon their links to the community, and this was something that everyone can benefit from.”
The team’s next community programme, in conjunction with the Nizwa Blood Bank, and the Firq Nizwa, Badr Al Samaa Hospital is a Blood Donation and Free Medical camp to be held in the Lulu Hypermarket Nizwa from 9 am on December 3, and the club is looking for a good turnout.
“The health authorities are always appealing for blood bank donations,” said Hussain, “but also, in the wake of the pandemic and Cyclone Shaheen, with the lockdowns and restrictions on movement, there is a significant need to replenish the national supplies. Also, it is a good chance for people to get a free general health check, to reassure them, after the dramas of the last couple of years.”
