Asghar century powers Bank Muscat to victory

Muscat: An aggressive century by Asghar Khan, studded with 15 boundaries ensured that Bank Muscat easily brush aside OCT Muscat by 99 runs in the B Division match of the Oman Cricket League.


Asghar, who scored 102 off 68 balls, completely dominated the OCT bowling attack, helping Bank Muscat score 256 for the loss of seven wickets in 30 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first.


In reply, OCT Muscat could muster only 157 before being bundled out in 30 overs. Munthir Al Balushi offered the only resistance with 40 runs while Mohsin Nazir chipped in with three wickets for Bank Muscat.

In another B Division match of Oman Cricket league, Oct Ruwi was too hot to handle for Oct Al Hail ‘A’, winning their match by 8 wickets. Put into bat after losing the toss, Oct Al Hail ‘A’ could score only 166 before being all out in 29.5 overs. Waleed Al Balushi was the top-scorer with 57 runs, while Khalid Pir Baksh AlBalushi was the wrecker-in-chief, picking up four wickets for 15 runs.


In reply, opener Mohammed Al Balushi led from the front, scoring 82 off 57 balls with 13 hits to the fence and one six. Mohammed was ably supported by Zubair Ali AlBalushi who scored 59 runs. Mohammed Al Balushi was announced as the Player of the Match.

Batting first after winning the toss, Al Waad could score only 121 before being bundled out in 18.5 overs. Jibin Kunnumpurath took two wickets and Parthipan Krishnan was the sole warrior with the bat, scoring 34 runs.


Replying to this score, Design Group knocked off the required target in 12.1 overs, with Karthik Rajappa scoring a quickfire 57 off 31 balls, with 11 boundaries. Sidhi Suman took two for 16 for Al Waad. Karthik Rajappa was adjudged the Player of the Match.

In a D Division match, Safara International got the better of Winner’s Jotun by 4 wickets. Put into bat after losing the toss, Winner’s Jotun were bundled out for 131 in 19.5 overs, with only Raj Amal among the runs with 46. Ali Akbar Husain Mulla and Sandesh Pusalkar were the leading wicket takers, each taking four wickets apiece.


In reply Safara International reached the target in 17.3 overs, losing six wickets in the bargain. Syed Uzair Saman led the scoring with 46 runs. Joby Abraham Chacko and Prasad Kalgutkar took two wickets each for Winner’s Jotun.
