The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, marked the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) at Al Lattif Mosque in the Wilayat of Bausher, on Monday.

The birth anniversary Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday (peace be upon him) falls on October 19. Oman has declared public holiday on Tuesday to mark the occasion.

Known as Mawlid Nabi, Oman traditionally has gatherings where recitations of the prophet’s biography are held. It is not a ritual but held in high esteem.

Through the recitation people understand the life of the prophet that is considered as the practical example of the teachings of the Holy Quran.

The pandemic however has had an impact on this feature of celebration.

“Normally there is no specific timing for the recitations as it is not a ritual. Prior to Covid-19 the lectures were held at night because during the day people are working,” said Hatim al Abdulsalam, Islamic Information Center.

“Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is the practical example of the revelation and the revelation is the Holy Quran. When people go back to the biography they can see the teaching of Quran being practiced. This way people can also understand the Quran. Everything he did was according to the holy book,” he explained.
