Cyclone: Authorities warn of power outage in inundated areas

Muscat: National Committee for Emergency Management on Sunday said electricity will be cut off from inundated areas to prevent further mishaps.


The agency asked residents of low-lying areas to move to higher grounds or specified shelters as many streets and houses get inundated.


As the cyclone Shaheen gets closer to the shores of the Sultanate, heavy rains and strong winds are reported across the coastal-belt governorates. Aisha bint Juma Al Qassimia, a meteorologist at the Civil Aviation Authority, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliya and Al Buraimi will witness in the coming hours active winds estimated at 45 to 60 knots and heavy rains estimated between 200 and 500 mm.
