A number of international auto companies have contracted with the sultanate-based Dunes Oman to manufacture the brakes for cars they produce and distribute around the world.

Saeed bin Mohammed al Shehri, Deputy Director-General of Dunes Oman operating in the Salalah Free Zone, said, "The company's production capacity is 36,000 metric tons annually from its two production lines, and it plans to increase production in parallel with the increase in demand for its products.

He pointed out that the company is fully committed to the environment and it depends on electricity in all its production processes, noting that the use of electricity reduces the hazardous emissions that can result from such factories.

He stated that the production process in the factory depends on two main components: silica sand, which the company imports from outside the Sultanate due to its unavailability locally, and scrap iron, which it imports from car factories in Asia and Europe.

He added that Omanization currently is 20 per cent, which is higher than the percentages set for free zones.

Dunes Oman started its operations in 2008 at Salalah Free zone and has been supplying systems and components to clients such as VW, BMW, Ford and Daimler among others.
