MUSCAT: The general assembly of Oman Athletics Association (OAA) elected the new board member for (2021-2024) term on Saturday.
Sheikh Salim Said al Omri was elected as the chairman of OAA as he received 16 votes among the other three opponents including Adil Khadim al Zari (Masiarh club), Jihad Abdullah al Sheikh (Oman club) and Mohammed al Asmi (Al Basaher club) who quit in the second round of voting.
Ahil Sidab representative, Said al Hadi, won the Vice-Chairman position after having 19 votes. He was competing in this position beside Ali al Marzouqi. Asaad al Hosni and Hamdan al Bousheri elected as secretary General and board treasurer. Khawla al Rawahi and Aisha al Jabri were the two nominees for the woman representative in the board and the former elected for the position as she had 20 votes.
Eight candidates were in the list for board members post including Ahmed BaAbood (Al Ittihad), Ahmed Al Dhoori (Khasab), Hamood al Shabibi (Al Mudhaibi), Khalfan al Waeli (Bahla), Abdullah al Saidi (Ibri), Mohammed al Baulushi (Al Suwaiq), Mohammed al Balushi (Al Salam) and Hadi al Alawi (Al Taleia). Only top four member in voting being selected as the members of the board including: Ahmed Al Dhoori, Mohammed al Baulushi, Hamood al Shabibi and Khalfan al Waeli.
Post the election, the newly elected chief of OAA thanked all the club chairmen for their confidence and trust on him to lead OAA in the forthcoming period.
“A special thanks for the previous board of OAA on their efforts and initiatives. We are having three years and as everyone known it is limited period. However, we will deliver our best towards development of athletics in Oman. Continuation on the previous board plan and will have the right resources to implement and reach the desired objectives,” he ended.
