Oman rally star Abdullah al Rawahi returned to winning ways after claiming the top spot in the third round of Jordan Rally Championship 2021 held near Dead Sea in Amman on Saturday.
The triumph in Jordan was also bitter-sweet for the Omani youngster after he was forced out of Jordan International Rally due to an overheating engine two months back.
Al Rawahi and his Jordanian co-driver Ata al Hmoud finished on top in their Subaru Impreza STi N14 after covering the total distance of 167 km in 40 minutes 39 seconds.
The Omani-Jordanian duo claimed the first spot in all the four Super Special stages to take the lead in the Jordan Rally Championship also after the three rounds.
“I’m very happy to return to Jordan after a long break and to claim the title in the third round on Subaro N14. Feels great to win outside Oman despite facing some difficulties during the races. Less power of engine, terrain was different in Dead Sea area, especially on Nebo and Main categories. So, happy to be on the podium with my co-driver Ata al Hmoud,” Abdullah said after winning the title.
Abdullah said they had to manage the engine issues and adjust to the terrain before finishing top.
“This win is a satisfying one especially when conditions were not perfect. This experience will definitely help me and our team in the upcoming events,” Al Rawahi added.
Jordanian drivers Youseff al Asmal and Kayyal Nabil in Subaru Impreza STi N11 finished second with a timing of 43:05 in the third round.
Local drivers Ameer Nassif and Musa Djiyerian in Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X claimed third position with a timing of 43:42.
GRAVEL STAGES
The event organised by the Jordan Motorsport Association included gravel stage for 53.34 km and the rest road sections in 166.59 km total distance.
Stage timings for Al Rawahi were 7:11 minutes, 13:03, 7:14 and 13:11 in the four stages respectively.
The first leg consisted of Super Stage 1 (Nebo 1) for 9.7 km and Super Stage 2 (Main 1) for 16.97 km.
The second leg repeated the two special gravel stages for the same distance.
Al Rawahi didn’t participate in the first and second round in 2021 edition due to Covid-19 imposed travel restrictions.
Two more rounds are remaining in the 2021 Jordan Rally Championship with Abdullah and Ata in the lead after the first three rounds.
Abdullah and Al Hmoud had claimed the overall championship in the Jordan Rally 2019.
In 2020, Abdullah won the first round but was unable to attend further rounds due to the pandemic situation.
