Muscat: Oman LNG has approved a fiscal contribution of RO 500,000 to mitigate the severe consequences of the latest climatic conditions in Sur and other areas in South Sharqiyah Governorate, an official statement.
Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO) also announced financial support of RO555,000 for efforts in dealing with the repercussions of recent climatic conditions.
South Sharqiyah Governorate faced the brunt of the easterly disturbance, also known as the upper air low pressure over the Arabian Sea, on Friday.
Many places were flooded with wadis overflowing and inundation of seawater.
The Governor of South Sharqiyah has directed the municipality's specialists to exert more efforts to solve the problem of water gathering in residential neighborhoods and roads.
He praised praising the support of companies and private sector institutions, and their efforts in dealing with the situation.
On the other hand, he urged specialists to expedite the provision of urgent aid to the affected families.
The Supreme Committee has decided to allow the movement of individuals and to open stores selling foodstuffs, bakeries, restaurants, building materials stores, electrical and sanitary materials, and fodder stores located in Sur between 7 am and 5 pm on Thursday (July 22 and Friday (July 23).
