MUSCAT: The Council of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), during its fourth meeting of the academic year 2020-2021, discussed a draft proposal on academic employment for Omanis, mid-year graduates lists, and a proposal on the budget estimates for the university and the hospital for the fiscal year 2022.
The meeting was held at the SQU Cultural Centre under the chair of Dr Rahma Ibrhaim al Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Chairperson of SQU Council.
The Council also looked into a report on decisions and recommendations made by the SQU and reviewed some performance indicators of relevance to quality improvement and the SQU global rating.
The Council commended the SQU’s good rating at world level, following the recent international classification of world universities, in which the SQU occupied the 368th position.
The SQU Council valued the efforts taken to achieve the international rating. It called for the continuation of such efforts to improve the SQU’s rating and achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040 to maintain the objective of having three Omani universities figure among the best 300 universities worldwide.
The meeting was attended by HH Sayyid Dr Fahd al Julanda al Said, SQU Vice Chancellor, deputy chairman of the SQU Council, among other members. -- ONA
