Top honour for Oman’s former ambassador to Korea

MUSCAT: On behalf of Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea, Kim Chang-kyu, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Sultanate of Oman, conferred on June 28, 2021, the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit, Gwanghwa Medal on Mohammed bin Salim al Harthy, former Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Korea.


Retired Ambassador Al Harthy has served more than a decade in Seoul, Korea, from December 2009 to December 2019. He was elected Chairman of the Korea-Arab Society (KAS) in 2016 and served two consecutive terms until 2019. Also, Al Harthy was also Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Korea from 2016 to 2019.


The Gwanghwa Medal was presented to Ambassador Al Harthy in recognition of and appreciation for his outstanding and meritorious services rendered toward the promotion of friendly relations between the Republic of Korea and the Sultanate of Oman.


During the awarding ceremony, the Korean Ambassador to the Sultanate praised the role of Ambassador Al Harthy in widening the scope of the cooperative partnership between the two countries. In turn, Al Harthy reiterated the importance of the bilateral relations and expressed his appreciation to the Korean Government for supporting his services in Korea.


The awarding ceremony, held on the premises of the Korean Embassy, was attended by family members of Ambassador Al Harthy as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate, including Humaid bin Ali al Maani, Chief of Global Department, Zakaria bin Hamad al Saadi, Ambassador of the Sultanate to Korea and also Protocol Department’s representative.
