The Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology inaugurated the virtual Communications and Information Technology Exhibition ‘COMEX 2021’ on Sunday, with over 85 participants that included institutions and companies.
Opened by Eng. Said bin Hamoud bin Said al Maawali, the exhibition aims to shed light on the main trends and updates in the field of information and communication technology around the world, and to introduce digital transformation initiatives and digital services and products.
The exhibition this year includes 4 activities, namely the exhibition and the Excellence Ceremony for Technology Awards. On the sidelines of the exhibition, an accompanying conference will be organized for a period of 6 days, which includes 16 discussion sessions, and focuses on the most important sectors affected by the digital revolution such as the health and tourism sector, the banking and finance sector, and the sector. Al Maawali said that the ministry seeks to have a pivotal role in ‘Oman Vision 2040’ by building a thriving digital economy, through the implementation of a number of national projects and initiatives such as digital transformation initiatives in government and economic sectors, and artificial intelligence initiatives and stimulating emerging, small, medium and large companies. Also finding income-generating opportunities as well as supporting technical innovation and attracting technical investments from both inside and outside Oman.
This will also help to complete the digitization process of government services. It is also working in cooperation with various entities to define the strategic direction for a thriving digital economy in line with Oman's future vision 2040.
He indicated that the Sultanate, within the framework of the United Nations e-government survey for 2020, has achieved the 24th position internationally, and the second in the Gulf and Arab countries in the e-services development index, and the 50th internationally in the e-government development index.
