The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic

issued fresh warnings against social or any gatherings, even as the Ministry of Health on Sunday reported 2,788 new cases and 45 deaths for 5 days.

Of these, 702 cases were reported on Tuesday, 675 on Wednesday, 540 on Thursday, 283 on Friday, and 588 on Saturday.

With over 3,9541 cases recovered during this period, the recovery rate has shot up to 93 per cent.

Sixty-three people were admitted to various hospitals across the country, bringing the total number of inpatients to 722, including 255 in intensive care units (ICUs).

The number of ICU patients at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah has dropped to 16, as restrictions were eased in the Dhofar Governorate.

The total number of cases registered in the Sultanate has now reached 205,501, including 2,193 deaths.

Meanwhile, health experts have warned that the variant of the coronavirus found in India is a matter of concern.

The new strain has been spreading fast, and its impact can be more compared to the previous strains.

The Supreme Committee warned against holding and participating in gatherings of any kind such as weddings and funerals because of the severe risk of spreading infection among the community.

It added that the authorities concerned would take all legal measures to arrest the violators.

There will be a ban on receiving customers inside stores in all governorates of the Sultanate between 8 pm and 4 am, while delivery and take away services will be permitted. Food stores are exempted from the prohibition.

Meanwhile, several private institutions and companies have started registering for vaccines with the Ministry of Health as part of the national immunisation drive.

As per the guidelines, the companies which do not have their clinics and healthcare facilities can contract with the Ministry of Health or private institutions for the vaccination programme. While the vaccines will be administered for free by the Ministry of Health, private hospitals will be charging RO 3 per dose.
