The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs said that tomorrow, Thursday, May 13, 2021, will be the first day of the blessed month of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
If the first day of Eid falls on Thursday, May 13, the holidays end on Saturday, May 15, with work to resume May 16.
Official statement of Sighting the Crescent of Month Shawwal 1442 AH
Praise be to Allah and prayer and peace be upon His Messenger Mohammad. The main committee for moon sighting met on the evening of Wednesday 29th Ramadan 1442 AH (May 12, 2021), chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Abdullah al Salmi, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and the following as members: Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad bin Sulaiman al Khalili, Grand Mufti of Oman; D. Mohammed bin Said bin Khalfan al Mamari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs; Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud al Busaidi; Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Sheikh D. Mohamed bin Abdullah bin Salim al Hashmi, Supreme Court Judge; Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Sattar bin Ahmad al Kamali, chairman of the Court of Appeal in Musandam Governorate; Sheikh Mohamad bin Salim bin Dahman al Nandi, Appeal Court Judge in Muscat.
The committee has received evidence of sighting the crescent, therefore it decided after reviewing the evidence to approve the sighting of the crescent of month Shawwal 1442 AH. Hence, tomorrow Thursday (May 13, 2021) will mark the beginning of Blessed Eid Al Fitr 1442 AH. And on this blessed occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs is pleased to deliver its sincere congratulations and good wishes to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
