By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: Jan 2: Sheikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, has issued a ministerial decision regarding revamping the board of Omani Film Society (OFS). The decision mentioned that the replaced board committed various violations and ignored the warnings, prompting the ministry to interfere. The new temporary board consists of Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Chairman, Zakariya bin Yahiya al Zadjali, Deputy Chairman, Sulaiman al Khalili, Secretary, Khalfan al Rashdi, Treasurer, in addition to five more members. It will be responsible of fulfilling the Society’s objectives including financial liabilities. The decision obliged the new board to hold a general assembly meeting to discuss the Society’s status and elect a new board of directors within the period of two years. The decision was put into force immediately starting from January 2.
OFS had witnessed serial resignations during the last period of time indicating dissatisfaction and disagreement between its members. It is one of the professional associations affiliated to the MoSD and was first declared in June 2002. It aims to spread film culture, host film activities, publish periodical film issues, enhance relations with regional and international film makers, support and develop Omani film production and conduct concerned workshops for talents.
