The troupe will also perform in Sur on February 11 (at King Hall near Indian School Sur); in Muscat on February 12 (Al Bustan Palace — A Ritz Carlton Hotel); and in Salalah on February 14, (Indian Social Club, Salalah). Earlier, the Embassy of India organised a ‘Semi-classical Music Concert’ by Dr Soma Ghosh and her troupe at Al Bustan Palace in Muscat on February 24, 2017.
The event, which was attended by over 500 guests, including diplomats, and prominent Omanis and Indians, was graced by the presence of senior Omani officials including Dr Abdullah Nasser al Harrasi, Chairman of Public Authority for Radio and TV; Sayyid Mohammed Salem Ali al Said, Chief of Statistics and Standards Department; and Mohsin Khamis al Balushi, Adviser to the Minister of Commerce & Industry. Dr Soma Ghosh gave an enthralling performance of semi-classical music of different forms including Kajri, Ghazals, Thumri, Sufiana songs, and immortal Bollywood film songs.
Her troupe, accompanied by a talented dancer, recreated scenes that typify the traditional Indian ‘durbars’— the Royal Court Mehfils of Mughals. The troupe then performed in Sohar, Sur and Salalah, which were well attended and appreciated. The Festival of India in Oman has been organised with a view to present to the people of Oman the lesser known facets of India’s rich and diverse culture. An Indian Food Festival is planned at Grand Hyatt Hotel from March 15 to 19, 2017.
