Keeping the old as good as gold is an art Oman is learning to master, and a visit to the Wilayat of Mahdha, 300 km away from Muscat, testifies to this fact. Mahdha possesses, as any other wilayat, a long history and rich heritage. Forts and castles, where conventional crafts are practised, embody the authenticity of the place. The wilayat is located in Al Buraimi

Governorate, which shares borders with the emirates of Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai. It lies close to the Wilayat of Al Buraimi on the southwest and wilayats of Suhar and Shinas on the east.
Since Mahdha lies above sea level and thanks to abundant supply of water from wadis and aflaj, the wilayat became an important
station on a major trade route as well as a significant producer of wheat, dates, vegetables and various fruits. Agriculture is a source of
income for the residents of the wilayat as a variety of crops are cultivated here. Mahdha encompasses a number of aflaj, including Falaj Mahdha, Al Khutwah, Nawi, Al Khadhra, Sharma and Al Juwaif.
Existing forts in the wilayat offer glimpses of a powerful and prosperous past of the place. Among them, Bait Al Nadd Castle is situated at the centre of the wilayat and was recently renovated.
For nature admirers, Mahdha is a must-visit wilayat as there are many tourist attractions and renowned wadis such as Wadi Sharm, Al Khutwah, Al Huyool, Al Jazeera, Khamis, Al Qahfi, Al Hayer stream, Al Juwaid and Al Khadhra. There are several parks including Madel and Al Kahf.
Wadi Sharm Resort, first of its kind in Al Buraimi Governorate, is located in between the high mountains of the wilayat. The beautiful tourist resort is a perfect place for nature lovers seeking peace of mind and relaxation in the middle of high mountains with breathtaking views. Offering a year-round outdoor pool and barbecue area, Wadi Sharm Resort is situated 42 km from Al Ain.
The wilayat has most of the services and amenities provided by the government which include health and educational institutions. Government offices like Mahdha Municipality, Agricultural Development Centre, police station, court, wali’s office and water and electricity spread across the wilayat.
