Suwaiq crowned Omantel League champions

With four rounds still to go, Al Suwaiq expectedly assured themselves of the Omantel League title after a well-deserved 4-2 victory over Al Salam in Suhar on Monday. Al Suwaiq are annexing the Omantel League title for the fourth time. Suwaiq ensured the triumph as they now have 57 points in their kitty after 22 matches while the second-placed Al Shabab, who could only manage a goalless draw against Al Oruba, possess just 41 points in 22 games.

Al Shabab cannot plug the gap of 16 points with just four games remaining thereby handing the title to Al Suwaiq, who are the deserving victors.
In the crucial Al Suwaiq-Al Salam match, goals from Abdulaziz al Muqbali, Ali al Busaidy, Omar al Fazari and Yaseen al Shiyadi helped the winners take it through.
Mohammed al Matroushi and Waleed al Saadi netted consolation goals for Al Salam.
The Oman Football Association (OFA) will arrange a glittering event for crowning Al Suwaiq with the Omantel League shield. HH Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad bin Tareq al Said will be the chief guest for the final ceremony of the league on May 31 at Seeb Stadium when league champion will face Suhar at 10:00 pm.
Al Suwaiq won league titles in the following seasons: 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2012/2013.
Al Nasr, Al Mudhaibi and Muscat registered crucial wins against Fanja, Mirbat and Al Nahdha respectively. Despite their victories, Muscat and Al Mudhaibi are still positioned in the relegation zone where they have to fetch some more points to stay in the Omantel league.
Fanja and Saham are positioned in the 13th and 14th place with 23 points. The former lost against Al Mudhaibi 3-2 while the latter registered a 1-1 drew with Dhofar.
Coach Shaker happy
Meanwhile, Al Suwaiq coach Hakeem Shaker expressed his happiness after the team’s performance.
“We promised and achieved our promise by clinching the shield of the league. Our match against Al Salam was a golden key to crown the title. Prior one day to Al Salam match, players in the morning sessions were very enthusiastic to win the match. Collaboration, perseverance, trust and uplift the results were the main reasons for Al Suwaiq to reach for the title,” Hakeem Shaker, head coach of Al Suwaiq club, said.
Regarding his plan for the remaining rounds, Hakeem Shaker said that they would look to gain the maximum number of points and keep the winning streak going.
