Muscat, Aug 29 - To encourage reading and increase access to books, Al Mouj Muscat, Oman’s lifestyle destination, has introduced the popular Little Free Library concept at its premises. Four Little Free Libraries have been installed around different locations at Al Mouj Muscat Community, including the Beach Park, Reehan Residences, The Walk and The Promenade. This Little Free Library offers a way to share good things to read — favourite books from your childhood or books you would recommend to friends; books that teach, intrigue and engage you. A Little Free Library is a “Take a book, return a book” free book exchange. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share.
If you have books at home that you no longer read, you can also donate them to the Little Free Library for somebody else to enjoy. A multitude of books from different genres, in numerous languages and for children and adults, can already be found. A group of stewards from the community will help maintain these libraries, encourage the community to use the libraries through activities and events and help keep the libraries stocked up. First started in US, at present there are over 50,000 registered Little Free Libraries in over 70 countries around the world.
Through Little Free Libraries, across the world millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds. Little Free Library initiative, the first of its kind to be introduced in Oman, aims to encourage reading and connect neighbours. Al Mouj Muscat’s Little Free Libraries have used the birdhouse and peace pole design for its boxes to stock books.
