Dhofar stretch lead on top of Omantel League table

MUSCAT, Sept 15 - Nine times winner and leaders, Dhofar, strengthened their hold on the Omantel League with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Al Rustaq at the Salalah Sports Complex on Friday in the fourth round of Omantel League. With the victory, the Salalah giants, have moved to 12 points while Al Rustaq remain stuck with three points in the eleventh place. It was Al Rustaq who drew first blood in the match when Ahmed al Kharousi netted the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute. However, the Dhofar players recorded a very strong comeback as they scored two goals through Ali al Najjar and Al Mundher al Alawi in the 36th and 45th minutes respectively.
Al Suwaiq hold Al Oruba
The match between Al Suwaiq and Al Oruba ended with a 1-1 draw at Sur Youth Sports Complex. Al Suwaiq took a lead when Red Warriors’ Mohsin al Ghassani found the net in the 53th minute. The hosts equalised in the 76th minute through Younis Mubarak. Al Oruba occupy the sixth place on the table with seven points while the defending champions have six points.
Muscat edge past Sur
The second-placed Muscat, scored a narrow 1-0 win over Sur at the Seeb Sports Stadium. The only goal coming for the club from the national capital coming in the third minute through Mustafa Quyat as the Sur goalkeeper struggled to handle the ball properly. Muscat climbed to the second position with nine points while Sur remain static with only two points at 12th place.
Al Nahdha thump Majees
Al Nahdha emerged a comfortable 4-0 winner over the Omantel League’s newest entrants, Majees, at the Al Buraimi Sports Complex. With this victory, Al Buraimi giant jumped to third place with eight points while Majees were struggling at the drop zone at 13th place with only one point.
Al Nasr beat Shabab
The Super Cup champion Al Nasr scored a crucial 2-1 win over guests Al Shabab at Salalah Sports Complex. Al Nasr now have eight points at fourth place and have the same number of points as Al Nahdha, but the latter are ahead in terms of goals difference. E’tor Danial and Ahmed Abdul Hakeem netted for the hosts while Amro Jenyat scored the consolation goal for Al Shabab.
Oman Club suffer defeat
Oman Club are still facing a lot at the bottom zone as they suffered their fourth defeat from Suhar. A 3-2 victory improved Suhar’s position as they reached the fifth place while Oman is the only club without any points since the league started from the mid of last month. Tariq al Mahrooqi put Oman Club ahead in the 13th minute and Suhar got the equaliser through Said Obaid four minutes later. Mohsin Jowhar struck a brace thereafter for Suhar within two minutes in the 30th and 32nd minutes. Oman’s professional player Leonardo reduced the deficit scoring the second goal.
Saham down Mirbat
Second half goals through Faisal al Buraiki and O’livera ensured Saham’s victory 2-1 victory against Mirbat on Monday. Despite Mirbat being ahead in the 24th minute by Abdul Rahman al Ghassani, Saham registered a crucial comeback in the second half. Saham’s victory took it to six points at ninth place while Mirbat remain in the eighth place with eight points.
