Seeb lift HM Youth Cup for 12th time

MUSCAT, Dec 24 - Seeb Club grabbed their 12th HM Cup for Youth when they won it for 2017 during the annual awards ceremony organised by the Ministry of Sports Affairs on Monday. The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr Rasheed bin al Safi al Huraibi, Chairman of Tender Board, in presence of Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, at the Grand Hyatt hotel. Seeb have set a new record by winning the coveted cup for the 12th time. Seeb were the top club in the Sultanate for 2017 in overall achievements for implementation of both sports and youth activities among the clubs. Besides the coveted His Majesty’s Cup for Youth trophy, Seeb Club were also presented with a cheque of RO 30,000.
Al Itifaq club took the second position after missing the winners list in the previous year. Quriyat club jumped to third place from the ninth position last year. Saham club claimed the fourth place award.
Al Nasr Club took the fifth spot, Nizwa club won the sixth place and Al Bashair club finished seventh. Salalah and Dhofar clubs claimed the eighth and ninth positions respectively. Ibri club were dropped to the 10th place after reaching third last year.
As many as 21 clubs vied for the His Majesty’s Cup for Youth 2017 including: Seeb, Ahli Sidab, Oman, Quriyat, Salalah, Al Nasr, Dhofar, Sohar, Al Salam, Al Suwaiq, Saham, Al Rustaq, Al Musannah, Bahla, Fanja, Al Bashair, Ibri, Yanqul, Al Ittifaq, Nizwa and Al Nahda. All participated clubs had boosted sports activities and taken a more comprehensive role as sports clubs.
“The secret behind Seeb Club winning the coveted cup for 12th time is the right implementation of club policy for both sports and youth activities. Also, the clear vision which is drawn by the president of club HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tareq al Said to diversify the 11 sports activities which are exercised by people in the club currently. Moreover, we will announce very soon the 12th sport which will be added to the series of sports activities in the club,” Yousef al Wahaibi, vice-president of Seeb Club, said.
“Winning the cup for a 12th time is clear indicator that Seeb are on the right track despite various challenges. The club is learning from all its participation in order to register success in every championship,” Al Wahaibi added.
Khalid al Adi, Chairman of Quriyat Club, affirmed that reaching to the podium as top three clubs of the HM Cup for Youth is an additional encouragement for the club to boost its number of sports activities.
He said the club board will work very hard to draw new roadmap, diversify the activities to meet the needs of the youth and provide the right platform for them to practice their favourite sports and activities.
“We did not expect to be at the top three winners due to the high competition between the clubs. We are very proud to reach this level. Our main focus now is to participate and join in all the ministry sports, social and youth activities,” Al Adi added.
Mohammed Saloom al Shukairi, chairman of Al Itifaq club, pointed out that the club has a good history in HM Cup for Youth as the club was the winner in 2010. He added that the club registered top results in different championships that it took part in the previous year. Accordingly, that helped the club to be felicitated by the ministry at this top-level event.
“Working closely with the internal teams under umbrella of club is our upcoming task in order to know exactly the requirements of the youth. Also, that will help us to grow and improve the technical level of talented youth and join them to the national teams in different sports. We will activate the internal activities of club and open the floor for everyone to be part of this sports and youth activities,” chairman of Al Ittifaq club concluded.
