Oman airports record over 1.33 million passengers in January 2025

MUSCAT: Passenger traffic through Omani airports dropped by 6% in January 2025, with 1.33 million travelers recorded, compared to 1.42 million in the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Muscat International Airport, which handles the bulk of air traffic, saw a 7% decline, recording 1.2 million passengers across 8,099 flights, a 7.5% drop in total flights. International flights made up 7,410 of these, carrying 1.1 million passengers, while domestic flights accounted for 689 flights, serving 90,689 passengers.
Salalah Airport was the only major airport to record growth, handling 126,506 passengers, a 5% increase year-on-year. It saw 822 flights, marking a 1.6% rise. International traffic at Salalah included 404 flights carrying 59,429 passengers, while domestic flights totaled 418, with 67,077 passengers.
Sohar Airport handled just 10 flights, while Duqm Airport served 4,774 passengers across 52 flights.
The decline in passenger traffic reflects seasonal fluctuations and global travel trends, though Salalah’s growth suggests increasing regional and international interest in the Dhofar region as a destination. — ONA
