The Oman Bowling Committee (OBC) has announced the organisation of the Muscat International Bowling Tournament, one of the most prominent sports events in the Sultanate for bowling, both in terms of the value of its financial prizes and international participation. The tournament’s prizes amount to RO 30,000 and will be held from January 10 to 20 at the Seeb Bowling Centre as part of the 'Muscat Nights' festival, the official sponsor of the event.

Ayman al Jahdhami, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Muscat International Bowling Tournament, expressed his delight with the partnership between the OBC and Muscat Nights to organise this unique event. Al Jahdhami highlighted that the tournament stands out due to its substantial prize pool, which serves as a strong incentive for local players and attracts participants from various countries worldwide.

He emphasised that the tournament will be distinguished in terms of technical aspects, organisation and public attendance, anticipating broad participation from players who have already begun their preparations. He also announced that registration for participation would open on the first day of the tournament, January 10, and remain open until January 19 during the trial rounds.

Al Jahdhami praised the significant efforts of Muscat Municipality in organising Muscat Nights, emphasising the importance of integrating sports into this diverse festival. He added that bowling enjoys widespread popularity and participation, expressing optimism about the success of the tournament and its ability to achieve its intended goals.

The coach of the Omani national bowling team, Hoonpyo Lee, expressed his delight at the team's participation in the Muscat International Bowling Tournament, noting that it represents an exceptional opportunity for players to compete against top international players.

In an exclusive interview, he said: 'I think this tournament is a great chance for us to play alongside the best international players, especially since players from Korea, Malaysia and Thailand, who are among the top in the sport, will participate, in addition to elite players from the GCC countries.'

Hoonpyo Lee emphasised that competing against these players will provide the Omani national team with real challenges that will improve the players' level, particularly the younger ones.

He added: 'This is an excellent opportunity to enhance the performance of our young players. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Muscat Municipality for their support in organising this outstanding event.'

Regarding the participation of the national team players in the tournament, the coach clarified: 'All members of the national team will certainly participate in this tournament.'

Responding to a question about the possibility of selecting new players for the national team from the tournament participants, Hoonpyo Lee explained: 'The process of selecting national team players is subject to strict and fair rules. Selection is based on performance in the National Club League and the trials organised specifically for this purpose.'

The coach concluded his remarks by highlighting the importance of the tournament in enhancing the players' skills and preparing them for future competitions at the regional and international levels.
