Oman beach soccer team back to action

Oman beach soccer team will be back to action on Sunday as they commence a domestic preparatory camp at the sands court at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in the Wilayat of Bausher. The camp will conclude on January 23. This camp is part of the team’s preparation for the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025, which will take place in Pattaya from March 20 to 30, 2025. Oman’s team aims to rekindle the memories of the 2015 AFC Beach Soccer Championship when they were crowned champions. In the upcoming edition, they will vie for the Asian title alongside Bahrain, Malaysia and Vietnam in Group D. The Asian event will serve as qualifiers for the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup, with the top three teams from the Asian continent securing berths for the tournament in Seychelles in 2025. During the camp, the national team, headed by experienced and long-serving coach Talib Hilal, will play two crucial friendly matches against Saudi Arabia in Muscat.

The tentative dates for the matches are set for January 19 and 22 in the Wilayat of Bausher. This local gathering will provide the coaching staff with an opportunity to finalise the initial squad who will represent Oman in the upcoming assignment in Thailand. The coaching staff will also implement various technical and tactical training sessions to ensure the players are in peak form. The AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025 is expected to be highly competitive, as Asia’s top nations are participating in this event. The hosts Thailand are in Group A with Kuwait, Lebanon and India, while three-time winners Japan will face China, Saudi Arabia and Iraq in Group B. Titleholders Iran will aim for their fourth title as they compete in Group C with two-time champions United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and Indonesia. All 16 participating teams are divided into four groups, with the top two finishers from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. Oman’s national beach soccer team, ranked 11th internationally, will aim to relive the success of the 2015 AFC Beach Soccer Championship, which was held at Katara Beach in Qatar. Oman defeated Japan in the final to be crowned champions, while both teams, along with third-placed Iran, qualified for the 2015 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup.
