MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has launched mobile laboratories to verify fuel pumps, ensuring accuracy, reliability and compliance in fuel measurements and quality. The initiative began in the governorates of Muscat, Dhofar and Al Batinah North, aiming to provide rapid and precise testing to benefit consumers and fuel station owners alike.

Imad bin Khamis al Shukaili, Director-General of Standards and Metrology, highlighted that this service is the first of its kind in Oman and the second within the GCC. The mobile laboratories will conduct periodic verifications to uphold service standards, reduce complaints and prevent manipulation. By doing so, the Ministry seeks to enhance consumer confidence and ensure strict control over fuel station operations.

The laboratories are equipped with advanced technology to verify fuel types, such as grades 91, 95 and 98, bolstering trust in fuel quality. Initially, three units will operate in the governorates of Muscat, Dhofar and Al Batinah North, with plans to expand coverage across all governorates. Special seasonal efforts, such as during the autumn season, will focus on monitoring stations from Muscat to Salalah.

To sustain the initiative, periodic inspection fees will be levied at rates lower than those charged in other regional and advanced countries. The introduction of mobile laboratories marks a pivotal step towards improving service quality, ensuring market safety and accuracy, and fostering trust between consumers and station owners. As Oman aligns with global trends, this initiative is a long-term investment in consumer satisfaction and industry reliability. - ONA
