MUSCAT: The Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science celebrated the 13th edition of the 'Read' Youth Competition with a grand ceremony at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.

The initiative aims to instil a passion for reading among Oman’s youth while promoting good citizenship and knowledge.

Riya bint Hamad al Habsiyah, Assistant Director of the Libraries Department, said, “Reading is the gateway to success and a cornerstone of personal and professional development. Libraries play a pivotal role in nurturing knowledge and creativity, reflecting the progress of society.”



The competition attracted 1,759 participants across age groups, with 132 winners honoured during the event. Special categories included contributions from juvenile centres, schools for the deaf and hospitals, emphasising inclusivity.

The ceremony also featured a visual film on the competition’s journey, an exhibition of participants’ works and a recognition of exceptional achievements. Through such initiatives, Oman fosters a culture of learning and innovation, empowering its youth to excel. - ONA
