On the evening of 15 December, I found myself in the elegant halls of the National Museum of Oman, eagerly anticipating an unparalleled cultural experience.
The State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir, an ensemble renowned for its rich history and dedication to preserving folk traditions from Northern Russia, was about to take the stage.
This performance forms part of the “Complex of Cultural Events Abroad” initiative, supported by Russia’s Ministry of Culture and organised by ROSCONCERT.
As the choir began their performance, the atmosphere shifted dramatically. Under the artistic leadership of Svetlana Ignatyeva, an Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, the group captivated the audience with vibrant harmonies and infectious energy.
Svetlana, who also serves as a professor of choral and solo folk singing, introduced the choir with notable humility, referring to it as “only a small fragment” of their larger ensemble. However, this “small fragment” was imbued with a profound sense of history, reverberating with the voices of their ancestors through the power of song and dance.
