Bid to attract SMEs in postal sector: ASMED

The Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) hosted a dialogue session on enhancing investment of SMEs in the postal sector.

The session was held under the auspices of Eng Omar bin Hamdan al Ismaili, CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in the presence of officials and owners of SMEs.

The session presented innovative ideas to improve efficiency, encourage partnerships and cooperation between SMEs and local and international postal companies. It also raised awareness on the importance of the sector as a vital element in supporting the national economy.

'The postal sector provides and stimulates opportunities for small and medium enterprises and independent workers. TRA, by virtue of its role as a regulator of this sector, has set policies that allows investment of SMEs in the sector. The discussion addressed the aspects related to raising the level of quality of services provided by these institutions, as well as the controls related to monitoring prices,' said Ishaq al Shukaili, Deputy Chairman of ASMED.

The session discussed several topics including supporting legislation in the postal sector, regulatory procedures, and the necessary standards for quality and safety.

It is noteworthy that the Authority has implemented five specialised sectoral sessions during the previous period, where it addressed challenges and opportunities in financing SMES, supportive policies and legislation, mechanisms for accessing foreign markets and working on export facilities, regulatory procedures and standards necessary to ensure the safety and quality of products, services and operations, investment opportunities, financing solutions available to investors in usufruct land in the food security, health and tourism sectors.
