The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, hosted the first CEOs meeting for startups and technology companies in Oman. Held under the chairmanship of Shaikh Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) Board of Directors, the event gathered industry leaders, entrepreneurs and government officials to discuss challenges and opportunities in driving Oman’s digital economy.
The meeting witnessed the launch of two major initiatives. The CEO Network aims to foster strategic partnerships that bolster the digital transformation ecosystem, while the Tech Companies Platform, introduced by the Ministry, seeks to connect government entities, businesses and the public with active Omani ICT companies. This platform will streamline access to data, promote innovation and attract local and international investments.
Speaking at the event, Al Rawas emphasised the pivotal role of digital transformation in Oman’s economic diversification. He noted that the ICT sector, supported by Oman’s advanced infrastructure and skilled workforce, holds immense potential to attract investment and drive growth in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, highlighted the significance of public-private collaboration in realising the National Digital Economy Programme. He stressed that such partnerships are essential for positioning Oman as a regional leader in digital innovation, with the sector expected to contribute 10% of GDP by 2040.
Ibrahim al Hosni, Chair of OCCI’s Digital Economy Committee, underscored Oman’s readiness to become a hub for innovation, citing its talent pool and supportive ecosystem. The meeting, he said, is a critical step towards fostering collaboration, addressing challenges and unlocking new opportunities.
The event concluded with a discussion on the future of Oman’s digital economy, reaffirming its role as a cornerstone of economic growth and diversification.
