Muscat: The Embassy of Switzerland in the Sultanate of Oman is delighted to celebrate a decade of fostering strong and dynamic relations between the two nations. Since its opening on November 12, the Swiss Embassy has played a key role in deepening bilateral ties, achieving significant progress in peace promotion, trade and investment, scientific cooperation, and exchanges in sustainable development, education, health, and culture.
To commemorate this important milestone and to honour the long-standing cultural, economic, and cooperative bridges built over the years, the Embassy of Switzerland, in close partnership with the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM), hosted a week-long musical dialogue programme under the theme 'Desert Bridges'.
This unique initiative brought together Swiss and Omani musicians, creating an exceptional ensemble that blended jazz, traditional instruments, and the musical heritage of both cultures.
The Omani-Swiss Desert Bridge Ensemble will also be performing in Switzerland in the near future, expanding the cultural exchange even further.
The highlights of the anniversary celebration included:
National Day gala reception: On December 10, the Embassy hosted a Gala Reception to mark the Swiss National Day and the 10th anniversary, with the participation of Swiss musicians.
Masterclasses in Muscat: Swiss musicians conducted a series of educational sessions focusing on jazz, modal music, creating solo repertoires, and composing with a dulcimer (qanun), inspiring and sharing their expertise with local Omani talents.
Community outreach: On December 11, the Desert Bridges ensemble performed an Open Doors concert at the Social Welfare Home in Al Rustaq, sharing the gift of music with the community.
Grand finale concert at ROHM: The week-long celebration culminated in a special performance by the Desert Bridges ensemble at the Royal Opera House Muscat on December 12.
This grand finale underscored the enduring friendship and cultural collaboration between Switzerland and Oman, highlighting the successful partnership between the two nations through music and cultural exchange.
This remarkable event marked a significant chapter in the Embassy's ongoing efforts to foster a stronger bond between Switzerland and Oman, demonstrating the power of music to unite and build lasting friendships.
