Pusterhofer, Ozaki claim titles in Oman Golf Trophy

The second edition of the Oman Golf Trophy wrapped up its final round on Thursday at Al Mouj Golf Course. Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with various partners, the tournament ran from April to December and featured participants from Europe and Asia.
The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth. In an exciting third round at Al Mouj Golf , Japan's Atsushi Kiba claimed victory with an impressive score of 48 points. On the nearest-to-the-pin challenges, Gabriela Prostner from Germany secured the top spot on Hole 5, while Italy's Silvia Valli triumphed on Hole 13. Germany's Jonas Lange, supported by Aster, win the nearest-to-the-pin title on Hole 11.
In the men’s overall category, Otmar Pusterhofer from Austria emerged as the champion, claiming first place. Atsushi Kiba from Japan secured second place, followed by Shinago Kato, also from Japan, in third.
For the ladies’ division, Hiroko Ozaki from Japan dominated with 99 points, earning her the championship title. Germany’s Gabriela Prostner Banea took second place with an impressive 95 points, while Japan’s Kazue Miyamoto rounded off the podium in third place with 83 points.

Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, praised the role of sports in uniting nations, strengthening bonds and opening new horizons for fruitful cooperation and partnerships.

He highlighted that the tournament not only showcases the natural beauty and stunning golf courses of Oman but also underscores the Sultanate’s commitment to building bridges and enhancing global cooperation.
He extended his gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Oman Golf Association and all partners who contributed to the success of this event.
Al Muselhi conveyed a message of congratulations to the players who qualified for this final stage. He expressed his hope that this event would mark the beginning of enduring friendships and successful partnerships.
Basil al Rawas confirmed that the Oman Golf Trophy is the first Omani sports event organised internationally, with participation in several European and Asian countries. He explained that the second edition of the tournament achieved significant success, thanks to the wide participation of professional and amateur golfers. He noted that this event is not limited to sports but also carries diplomatic and cultural dimensions that contribute to enhancing the Sultanate's international presence.
Al Rawas added: 'This event primarily relies on sports diplomacy, and we extend our deep gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sultanate's embassies abroad, which played a pivotal role in organising the tournament. The event aims to promote the Sultanate of Oman, not only as a distinctive tourist destination but also as a nation that supports sports and cultural development.' He emphasised that such events reflect the Sultanate's vision to strengthen international relations through sports.
