MUSCAT: The National Museum organised a ceremony on Monday to launch the English version of the book 'My Journey Under of the Sultans of Wisdom' by late Mohammed Mohiuddin bin Abdulaziz.

The event was held under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal bin Hamad al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, and was attended by cultural enthusiasts.

Dr Tariq Mohiuddin Mohammed Ghulam, the son of the late author, in his speech said: 'The idea for the book began in 2016, when His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik suggested it to our father, as a means of documenting a critical period in Oman’s history. Since then, our father dedicated his time to research, writing, and composing the book, even learning how to use a computer to write the book’s texts himself. At the end of 2019, His Majesty Sultan Haitham personally reviewed the first draft and provided valuable comments and guidance that enriched the work.'

He added: 'The greatest thing our father did for this book was his vision of it as a bridge connecting the younger generations to the challenges faced by Oman’s leaders and people during a pivotal period in its history. These moments have now been recorded in this book, with the hope that they will inspire future generations.'

The event included a visual presentation highlighting the contents of the book, which documents the author's personal memoirs from his career spanning the 1950s to the 1990s, addressing key transformations in the history of the Sultanate of Oman and his diplomatic contributions during his time at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The book is a memoir that documents the modern history of the Sultanate of Oman, taking the reader on a historical journey from the 1950s to the 1970s. It recounts the lives of prominent figures and details life in old Muscat, as well as analysing major historical events that shaped the reigns of the late Sultan Said bin Taimour and the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.

Despite the economic differences between the two reigns, the wisdom, resilience and peaceful vision of international relations were prominent features of their leadership.

It is worth mentioning that Mohammed Mohiuddin bin Abdulaziz worked for 35 years, starting as a writer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1959 and later becoming a consultant in the ministry in 1994. During this period, he had the opportunity to work under the leadership of three Sultans of Oman namely the late Sultan Said bin Taimur, the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

He also held an independent supervisory position on foreign affairs from 1968 to 1971, representing Oman at major international diplomatic events, managing Oman’s relations with the United Nations and contributing to the field of international humanitarian law and maritime law.

The purpose of the event was to highlight the author's contributions to documenting the cultural and intellectual history of the Sultanate of Oman and to showcase his role in strengthening international relations during a period of significant historical transformations.

It is noteworthy that this book is a valuable document that highlights the wisdom and resilience in the leadership of Oman through various eras, making a significant addition to the Omani cultural library.

The book was first published in Oman in 2020 in English, and is currently being translated into Arabic to document a significant era in the modern history of the Sultanate of Oman.
