NIZWA, NOV 28
Over 85 business owners, small and medium enterprise (SME) leaders, and representatives from productive families are participating in the inaugural Businessmen’s Forum in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The event, organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in collaboration with the Chamber's SME Committee, is being held at the public square in Nizwa.
The four-day forum was officially opened by Shaikh Al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, in the presence of numerous officials and business leaders.
In his opening speech, Ahmed bin Abdullah al Kharousi, Chairman of the Organising Committee, emphasised the vital role of SMEs in Oman’s economic growth, aligning with the goals of the Oman Vision 2040. He highlighted the progress made in empowering entrepreneurs and expanding opportunities for small businesses, which have contributed to sustainable development and economic diversification.
The forum, hosted by OCCI’s Al Dakhiliyah branch, showcases a commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and supporting SMEs, which are pivotal in driving Oman’s economic future. Through events, workshops, and forums like this, OCCI promotes public-private sector collaboration, fosters innovation, and helps provide access to financing.
The forum’s objectives include advancing the social and economic development of the governorate, creating an entrepreneurial culture, and developing impactful projects. The event reflects Oman’s dedication to building a resilient economy and preparing for future challenges.
The first day of the forum featured a visual presentation titled 'A Heritage Speaks, Opportunities Grow,' addressing commercial and marketing prospects. This was followed by a dialogue session, 'Economic Gems Emerging from the Heart of Heritage,' moderated by Dr Ahmed Kashoub, Head of the Investment Sector at Tanmia Company. The session featured experts such as Dr Ahmed al Busaidy from Nizwa University, Khalil al Hinai from Al Hilal Industrial Group, and Sheikha al Mahrouqi, an entrepreneur in education. Dr Talal al Rawahi also presented a working paper titled 'This is How They Succeeded.'
Shaikh Al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy inaugurated the forum by cutting the ribbon and touring the exhibits, which featured a variety of products from local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and productive families. The forum also includes a series of workshops, entertainment activities, and sports segments over the coming days.
