OBA hosts Global basketball statisticians training session

The International Basketball Statisticians Training, organised by the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) under the supervision of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), concluded on Wednesday. The programme, held at the association’s headquarters from November 26-27, was conducted by Jordanian international instructor Marah Nayef Abdul Rahman. It featured 10 statisticians who passed the first stage of training, which included virtual sessions and examinations.
Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), highlighted the importance of the training as part of the association's plans to develop the sport and its personnel, including coaches, referees and statisticians. He emphasised the collaboration with FIBA to qualify 10 specialists in statistical analysis, which is essential for providing accurate game data beneficial to journalists and coaches. Al Naabi praised the participants' dedication and noted that the programme prepares them to contribute to both local and international basketball games.
Said al Habsi, Head of the Competitions Committee and a member of the OBA Board, stated that the training aligns with the association's efforts to improve technical statistics in local competitions and aims to qualify participants for FIBA-certified international licences. He stressed the importance of accurate statistics in basketball, as they help identify top players' performances, benefiting coaches, media professionals and analysts while aiding journalists in game analysis.
The programme received widespread praise for the participants' commitment and eagerness to learn, marking a significant step towards enhancing technical expertise in sports statistics both locally and internationally.
