In celebration of the Sultanate of Oman's 54th National Day, Barka Desalination Company, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Batinah South Governorate, organised a unique initiative to support anglers.

The initiative involved distributing marine health and safety bags with the aim of creating a safe working environment for anglers and improving their working conditions at sea, thereby supporting the sustainability of this vital sector.

The initiative aimed to provide tools and guidelines to raise awareness about the importance of adhering to health and safety standards during fishing operations. This initiative falls within the company's social responsibility framework, which aims to support groups working in the marine environment by enhancing their safety and ensuring suitable working conditions.

Dr Saleh bin Hamad al Alawi, Director of Social Responsibility at Barka Desalination Company, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative targeting fishermen, emphasising their importance as partners in the marine environment. He stated, 'Their support reflects our commitment to creating a safe and sustainable work environment that enables them to perform their duties efficiently and safely.'

Dr Al Alawi highlighted the significance of increasing community engagement in the Wilayat of Barka through social responsibility programmes. He stressed the need for more active scientific and community initiatives in line with the aspirations of the local community and to support sustainable development.

The initiative of distributing Marine Health and Safety Bags reflects Barka Desalination Company's belief in its national role and its commitment to enhancing the partnership between the public and private sectors to support the community. The company views social responsibility programmes as a key element in its strategy to raise the standard of living and achieve sustainable development.
