Dialogue session looks at founding phase of Al Busaid Dynasty

MANAH: The Oman Across Ages Museum organised a dialogue session titled 'The Al Busaid Dynasty: The Story of Foundatio' on Monday. The event drew significant attention from history and culture enthusiasts, alongside a distinguished group of academics and specialists in Omani history.
The discussion focused on the founding phase of the Al Busaid Dynasty, a pivotal turning point in Oman’s rich history.
Ahlam bint Saif al Hosniyah, Senior Cultural Relations Administrator at the museum, said: 'The session centred on three main themes: the journey of the dynasty’s foundation, the role of media in preserving its historical legacy, and the use of public relations and media to enhance societal awareness and national identity.”
Ahlam emphasised the museum's efforts to connect its exhibits with the history of the Al Busaid Dynasty, presenting information in innovative and accessible ways for visitors.
The Al Busaid Dynasty section of the museum consists of four main areas, showcasing the dynasty’s foundation by Imam Ahmed bin Said, the expansion of the empire under Sultan Said bin Sultan, the division between Oman and Zanzibar, and finally, the restoration of unity and the establishment of the modern renaissance.
The section also features striking symbolic displays, including a prominent Omani khanjar and the Al Saidi turban The Omani turban, known as the Mussar, is a traditional Omani headwear, as well as a large ship representing the might of Oman’s maritime fleet during that era.
The museum employs innovative presentation techniques, including visual symbols and historical summaries, to cater to visitors of all ages. These efforts aim to enrich the visitor experience and deepen public understanding of Oman’s illustrious history.
The session, moderated by Khalid bin Abdullah al Badie, included contributions from esteemed experts who explored historical, media and knowledge-based themes underscoring the importance of the Al Busaid era in Oman’s history.
Professor Dr Said bin Mohammed bin Said al Hashami, a specialist in modern and contemporary history, began the discussion with an overview of the Al Busaid Dynasty's founding, highlighting the challenges faced during its establishment. His insights revealed key details of this critical period, shedding light on the leadership and developments that helped shape modern Oman.
Dr Bader bin Ahmed al Balushi, researcher in strategic planning and psychology in modern administration, discussed the role of media and public relations in preserving the legacy of the Al Busaid Dynasty. He emphasised how media can be utilised to strengthen national identity, offering strategies for linking the community with its historical roots.
