MUSCAT: Oman national hockey team will commence their campaign at the 2024 Junior Asian Men’s Hockey Championship as they take on Bangladesh in group B on Tuesday at Oman Hockey Stadium. The match will kick off at 7 pm (Oman local time). This event will act as qualifiers for the FIH Junior Hockey Men’s World Cup 2025 as six teams from Asia will attend the World championship which will be played in India next year.

In the other matches, South Korea will face Thailand at 12:15 pm while in the following match, Japan will play against Chinese Taipei at 2:30 pm. In the third match, Malaysia will take on China at 4:45 pm.

Oman Hockey Association (OHA) is all set to begin the actions of the 2024 Junior Asian Men’s Hockey Championship which will run until December 4, 2024. Thani bin Saheem al Wahaibi, OHA board Director and Tournament Director said that OHA completed all the technical and logistics arrangements for the event. “Various training programmes and specialised workshops were organised in cooperation with the Asian Hockey Federation for all the umpires and officials to update their knowledge on the latest rules and regulations in the game. Furthermore, all participating men’s teams have arrived in Muscat and some of the teams began their warm-up sessions at Oman Hockey Stadium,” he added



“OHA collaboration with AHF aims to highlight the tournament as one of the most successful Asian sports events and showcase Oman’s potential to host regional and international hockey events,” he concluded.

The Junior Asian nine-day event in Muscat will feature the participation of ten teams which have been distributed into two pools. Chinese Taipei is heading pool A alongside India, Japan, Korea and Thailand. The hosts Oman led pool B which also comprised Bangladesh, China, Malaysia, and Pakistan. The top six spots will secure their presence in the upcoming edition of the FIH Junior Hockey Men’s World Cup 2025 which will be played in India with an expanded competition format that will feature 24 teams for the very first time.

Oman Junior Hockey Team head coach, Khalid bin Abdulrahman al Raisi, said that the Oman team completed their domestic camp recently on a successful note.

“The camp was a key step in our preparation plan for the Junior Asian Men’s Hockey Championship. We are working diligently to improve all aspects of the players’ performance physically, technically and psychologically. This stage requires high levels of focus and dedication from everyone to ensure that we deliver a performance worthy of Oman’s reputation in this competition,' he said.
