MUSCAT: Represented by the Directorate-General of Khoula Hospital, the Ministry of Health on Sunday launched a number of projects to improve medical services, cut down lists of patients waiting for specialised medical services, and localise some services in Khoula Hospital, Al Nahdha Hospital, and Al Wattayah Gynaecology and Obstetrics Complex.
The ceremony took place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre under the auspices of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health.
The minister stressed the importance of the partnership between the public and private sectors in achieving sustainable health services. He pointed out that over the past few years, the health sector faced major challenges due to the growing number of morbid cases, but the continuous efforts of all workers in the health sector have had a tangible positive impact. He added that efforts of the government and support from partners in the private sector played a great role in improving the functioning of healthcare services in the Sultanate of Oman.
For his part, Dr Rashid bin Mohammed al Alawi, Director-General of Khoula Hospital, pointed out that the projects carried out jointly by the public and private sectors include updating facilities, replacing and introducing new devices, and localising quality operations. Financing backing to the General-Directorate of Khoula Hospital during the past two years stood at RO 4 million, he added.
Dr Rashid noted that the five projects were supported by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Al Yusr Charitable Foundation, OMIFCO, and Al Jisr Charitable Foundation. The support provided by these institutions included funding and the purchase of medical equipment.
