Muscat: The holidays for the 54th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman have been announced, which includes a four-day long weekend starting November 20.
With citizens and residents having just returned from their summer vacation abroad (schools reopened in September), these holidays can be limited to some domestic travel, or staying home with the family and relatives.
Mind you spending time with family at home need not be having more screen time with gadgets. We have some tips for useful utilization of this upcoming weekend:
Reading books or finding time to watch a favorite movie can be an option. If you prefer watching a movie on a big screen, just travel to the nearest cinema hall and spend a few riyals on tickets, popcorn, and soft drinks. It can be a good opportunity to spend time with newspapers or new websites to catch up with the latest developments near you or around the world.
Music lovers can make use of the time listening to the classics of the past or updating themselves with the latest trends just like book lovers.
Food can be a part of the adventure. Apart from exploring the best restaurants in the town, one can be a self-made in-house chef who can explore recipes like pizzas, pasta, or noodles, or have some simple innovations.
Others include catching up with friends who share the same holidays either via phone calls and chats or personally meeting if they are close by within the city limits. Commuting can be easy in the absence of office traffic.
It will be also worth visiting or revising the nearby museums, and attractions such as waterfronts, beaches, or art galleries. Do not forget that commercial centers might have come up with special offers and promotions for the National Day.
For some perfectionists, rearranging home furniture, changing their positions, and nursing plants can be part of the 'stay home' agenda.
For those staying in villas with a large terrace, courtyard, or garden, the top priority can be to experiment with new plants, landscaping, or even kitchen farming that will help cultivate some vegetables for in-house consumption.
In the end, it won't be a bad idea to spend time sleeping on the sofa, making the best of the free time.
