MUSCAT, NOV 8

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth concluded the 'Summer Sports' programme for 2024 with a distinguished ceremony under the auspices of Sayyid Idris bin Mansoor al Busaidy, Director-General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the ministry. The event was attended by programme team members from various governorates, along with the technical and support teams and volunteer groups.

The programme included 244 activities, among them 115 training centres, 77 open sports days, 33 sports caravans, and 19 initiatives and volunteer workshops, distributed across sports complexes, clubs, Omani women's associations, and community teams throughout the governorates.

In her speech at the ceremony, Samira al Shukaili, head of the main committee for the programme, expressed pride in the success achieved through the combined efforts of the working teams. She emphasised the programme's importance in promoting a culture of sports and encouraging a healthy lifestyle among the community. Al Shukaili noted that the programme's objective, from its inception, was to raise awareness of the significance of sports, its positive impact on physical and mental health, and to strengthen social bonds through a range of activities suitable for all societal segments.

Al Shukaili explained that the programme encompassed four main pillars: sports centres that provided training under the supervision of professional coaches, open sports days that brought community members together in an enjoyable and competitive environment, sports caravans that travelled to remote villages and areas to promote community participation, and volunteer initiatives that focused on promoting physical activity and environmental awareness.

Saud Ambusaidi, Assistant Director-General for Sports Activities, clarified that the 'Summer Sports' aims to promote a culture of physical activity and healthy lifestyle and aligns with Oman Vision 2040 under the 'Sports for All' axis.

He added that one of the programme’s standout features was the organisation of sports caravans, designed to bring sports activities to remote areas. Coordinated with governors, the programme aimed to deliver activities to all age groups. A specialised sports team carried out these activities.
