Red Warriors gear up for Palestine, Iraq clashes in WC Qualifiers

MUSCAT: Oman players are underway in their domestic training camp which started on Monday at Seeb Stadium under watchful eyes of head coach Rasheed Jaber. The camp is part of the team’s preparations for the Fifa World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Palestine which is scheduled to be played on November 14 and against Iraq on November 19. Both matches to be played at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and the kick off is at 8:00 pm.
All the called-up players by Jaber attended the training sessions except Seeb players who finished recently their assignment at AFC Challenge League. Seeb confirmed their progression to the quarterfinals after securing top place in Group C. Mohsin al Ghassani, who is playing at Bangkok United Club, will join in the coming days besides Salah al Yahyaei (Bahrain’s A Khaldiya FC).
During the opening training sessions, the coaching staff focused on the physical side of the players. Furthermore, the players went under intensive physical sessions on Wednesday to enhance their endurance, speed and strength besides ensuring each player can maintain top performance levels throughout every game.
It is expected that the coaching staff will raise their focus in the coming days on the critical areas to develop performance on the green field. Under guidance of the coaching staff headed by coach Rasheed Jaber, the players will implement some technical and tactical training sessions including the strategic gameplay drills which will reinforce positioning, spacing and role clarity across all phases of play.
Red Warriors will chase for securing maximum points as possible in the forthcoming games to keep their hopes alive in the qualifiers. The team suffered three defeats in the qualifiers against Iraq, South Korea and Jordan while they registered a sole victory over Kuwait in Muscat by 4-0. The last 4-0 defeat against Jordan in Amman last month dropped Oman to fourth position and remained at three points while South Korea led the table by 10 points and Jordan are in the second position with seven points. Iraq are in third place with seven points too. Kuwait (three points) and Palestine (two points) are in the fifth and sixth places respectively.
The revealed squad included 27 members and three goalies were called up: Ibrahim al Mukhaini, Fayez al Rushaidi and Ibrahim al Rajhi. The defending line-up featured: Mohammed al Musallami, Ahmed al Khamisi, Thani al Rushaidi, Khalid al Buraiki, Ghanim al Habashi, Ali al Busaidy and Ahmed al Kaabi. The midfield comprised from Hussain al Shahri, Harib al Saadi, Abdulaziz al Shamousi, Mulham al Sunaidy, Abdullah Fawaz, Arshad al Alawi, Sultan al Marzouqi, Yazeed al Maashani, Abdulrahman al Mushaifri, Jameel al Yahmadi and Zaher al Aghbari. The attack line will be represented by Nasser al Rawahi, Salah al Yahyaei, Omar al Maliki, Mohsin al Ghassani, Esam al Subhi and Hatim al Roushdi.
