Oman boosts global tourism efforts with new initiatives in Dhofar

Salalah: In a bid to enhance its appeal as a global tourism destination, Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is intensifying promotional efforts aimed at drawing international visitors to Dhofar, known for its unique natural and cultural sites. The ministry’s initiatives are part of a broader strategy to support the local economy through increased tourism.

Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Azri, Director of the Tourism Patterns Department at the Ministry, announced that Salalah Port recently welcomed the cruise ship Vasco da Gama. The ship’s 437 passengers arrived via air travel to Dhofar, underscoring Oman’s growing reputation as a stopover for international cruise lines.

The visitors embarked on a five-day itinerary that showcased Dhofar’s famed Land of Frankincense and other cultural landmarks, before continuing their journey from Salalah Port to Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat. This strategic itinerary highlights Oman’s successful positioning as a world-class tourism hub.

Al-Azri added that the ministry is actively working with global tourism companies to expand Oman’s reach to new international markets, building on the recent success of attracting Vasco da Gama’s passengers to Oman’s shores.
