National Geographic Learning returns to Oman after 10 years

 
Oman will play host to the National Geographic Learning (NGL) annual educational forum this year coinciding with its 10-year anniversary from November 7 to 9 at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, after a decade-long hiatus.

Titled ‘Keeping it Real: Content, Connections and Critical Thinking’, this year’s forum will bring together the key influencers and experts in education from across the region to discuss challenges and share best practices, solutions and aspirations for the future of learning.

Speaking to the Observer, a key personnel from the NGL Education Forum said that the initiative will explore the topics around authenticity in learning materials, what this means and how we can support students navigating this in the learning environment.

The forum will be joined by internationally acclaimed experts from across the education spectrum and beyond, including: John Hughes (DipTEFL), MA (ELT Author), Sean Bermingham and Laura LeDrean (Executive Editors at National Geographic Learning), Simon Ferdinand (Senior Director, NGL, ELT EMEA), Charlotte Ellis (Strategic Marketing Manager, NGL) and Suaad al Harthi (National Geographic Explorer and Executive Director of the Environment Society of Oman) with more speakers to be confirmed.

On November 7, John Hughes, Author and Teacher Trainer, will present ‘Navigating a Sea of Authenticity, Artificiality and Ambiguity’ while Khalid al Amri, will present his knowledge titled ‘A Local Look: The Story of Frankincense in Oman’.

On November 8, Laura LeDrean, Publisher at National Geographic Learning, and Sean Bermingham, Executive Editor, National Geographic Learning, will do a presentation on ‘Building a Reliable Foundation for Learning’. Same day, Simon Ferdinand, Senior Director, NGL EMEA, will do a presentation on ‘The Power of Authentic Data’ while Suaad al Harthi, National Geographic Explorer and Executive Director of the Environment Society of Oman (ESO), will speak about ‘Adventures in Conservation: Inspiring the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards'. On November 9, there will be a Q&A session on ‘Greening Education with National Geographic Explorer’ with Al Harthi and ‘Mirrors and Windows: Inspiring Learning Through Visual Literacy’ by Charlotte Ellis, Strategic Marketing Manager, NGL EMEA.
